What are the groups of sealing materials?
Sealing materials are divided into three groups:
1. Hardenable materials – delivered plastic, then hardened.
2. Art materials – retaining their given shape, until the action of force changes that shape.
3. Flexible materials – supplied plastic and then cured while remaining flexible. When a force acts on them, they change shape, but after the force has ceased – they return to their original shape.
What binders are used for production:
a) hardened sealing materials?
b) plastic sealing materials?
c) flexible sealing materials?
The following binders are used in the production of sealing materials:
1) for hardening materials: linseed oil and tar or asphalt;
2) For plastic materials: acrylate and butyl rubber;
3) For flexible materials: silicone, tiokol i poliuretan.
What is the so-called. compatibility of sealing materials with the paint coating. Please explain this property in more detail. Paint-compatible sealants do not adversely affect adjacent coatings, so they don't discolor. They also do not release plasticizers into the coating. Compatibility with the paint coating does not imply, that the sealing material can be painted over without causing damage.
